1  CHOPIN / Chopin's Life / Chopin as celebrity on: May 09, 2010, 12:09:14 am
I read somewhere about "celebrity worship syndrome". Nowadays they talk about Brad and Angelina. They then give examples in the past to show that the CWS is present at all times. One of the examples is: In the 1830s, Parisian ladies threw their underwear to Chopin to show their support when Chopin performed his sonatas. Huh
2  CHOPIN PERFORMERS / Mid 20th century pianists / Re: Nocturnes by Pires on: November 22, 2008, 09:10:32 pm
Her nocturne is "firey night" ! In no way they're sleepy, but sometimes too much!
3  GENERAL INFORMATION / Intro / Re: New to the forum on: November 22, 2008, 09:07:44 pm
That's good though. Having a serious music education is very nice. What do you want to do in the future? Become a composer, performer, or a professor?
4  CHOPIN / Chopin's Music / Re: Albumleaf on: November 22, 2008, 08:57:25 pm
Album leaf is just a characteristic piece that is short and easy to play. It is popular in the 18-19th century. For example Beethoven's Fur Elise can also be called Albumblatt (German term for album leaf). Schubert, Mendelssohn, and Chopin also have it. Liszt has an album leaf in waltz form. I'm not sure that an album leaf must be in triple time. It might be in the form of a waltz or mazurka as you said. Huh
5  CHOPIN VS OTHER COMPOSERS / Chopin vs Mozart / Re: Who said this? on: June 03, 2008, 11:50:10 am
Does anyone know who said this: If Mozart had lived in Chopin's time, he would have written his piano concertos like Chopin's.

Schumann said so. The original quote is in the quote page: http://www.ourchopin.com/quotes.html
6  CHOPIN PERFORMERS / Legendary pianists / Re: Cortot plays Chopin on: June 03, 2008, 11:45:26 am
I'm not sure. His playing of this op.22 is like a child/clown. Everything is uncontrollable, just impromptuous: speed, volume, stress... Huh
7  GENERAL INFORMATION / Anything / Re: Miyata's Recommendations on RACHMANINOFF on: June 03, 2008, 11:42:50 am
Playing some of his easy pieces wouldn't make you crazy. I think you were talking about learning Rach Concerto No.3. I can never play it in my whole life. Cry
8  CHOPIN VS OTHER COMPOSERS / Chopin vs other composers / Re: Bach's effect on: June 03, 2008, 11:41:28 am
Even though Chopin studied Bach carefully, I wonder if he was really interested in the strict form of the baroque fugue. Given that he composed only one fugue, I think he didn't want to spend time composing and fixing the fugues for the preludes. So he just went for the new type of preludes without fugue.
9  CHOPIN VS OTHER COMPOSERS / Chopin vs other composers / Re: Rachmaninoff vs Chopin on: June 03, 2008, 11:37:20 am
Rachmaninoff is a true follower of Chopin, like Chopin is the one of Mozart. So there must be some difference about passion and composition development.
10  CHOPIN VS OTHER COMPOSERS / Chopin vs other composers / Re: Chopin's music vs Schumann's on: June 03, 2008, 11:35:14 am
Well, Schumann's music is truly romantic music, not Chopin's. Wink Chopin somehow stayed with the traditional classical style with improvisation in form and texture. Lips sealed I personally love some of Schumann's work but there are a lot that I couldn't understand. Huh
11  CHOPIN PERFORMERS / Legendary pianists / Re: Who is the WORST Pianist that you know? on: May 24, 2008, 02:00:25 pm
Well i dont like his technical.
x.x!

 Undecided

I prefer other pianist

Well, isn't he the greatest pianist of the 20th century? Even though his playing is not traditional (he changed score markings a lot!), he's favored among audience.
12  CHOPIN VS OTHER COMPOSERS / Chopin vs Liszt / Liszt's transcription of Chopin's songs? on: May 24, 2008, 01:58:46 pm
Liszt is the master of piano transcription. Does any of you have any clue why he selected just a few of Chopin's songs to make transcription?
13  GENERAL INFORMATION / Anything / Re: Where did you learn piano? and Who taught you? on: May 24, 2008, 01:56:57 pm
Yes, but people in the conservatory will say differently. They have serious training so they're more professional. Anyway, that's their career right?

How's your piano study going?
14  CHOPIN VS OTHER COMPOSERS / Chopin vs other composers / Re: Chopin's music vs Schumann's on: May 21, 2008, 03:36:00 am
yep chopin's music is a ballad, something to dance, slowly... and shubert is something like church... example his Ave Maria, etc-

Schubert is also famous in the dance form, e.g. the Schubertian valse de salon, even though his waltzes are not as famous as Chopin's. But we're talking about Schumann here in this topic, not Schubert, right?
15  GENERAL INFORMATION / Anything / Re: I want to know: WHY do you like the piano? on: May 21, 2008, 03:26:49 am
I didn't like the piano in the first place. My parents made me to study piano and over time I come to love it. Yes, it's true that playing is relaxing but it's also a discovery of the music. Cheesy
